We Are All One With Jesus

We Are All One With Jesus

It’s no secret to those that know me that I’m incredibly liberal politically. Name the issue, and 99 times out of 100 my position will be left-wing.

Yet while I haven’t been afraid to speak up for the things I believe in and against things I don’t, there’s something greater than politics, and really anything on this earth: Jesus.

There are many aspects of Jesus’ life, of course, but here’s one thing: He came to earth to bring us together, not drive us apart.

“But wait!” Some people might say. Some might point to Luke 12:53 (NIV), where Jesus says: “They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

Yes, He said that. But also think of the context. Wouldn’t He rather we all believe in Him and in His sacrifice to forgive our sins, so that we all can be saved? Of course! But He also knows some of us will choose not to believe, hence we won’t be saved, and hence we will be divided – and hence why a mother might be against daughter, or a father against son.

But we all can be saved, we all can be united, if we do believe and repent of our sins. And take Jesus’ example: while on earth, He hung out with and ministered to all sorts of different people, who were of different genders, different races, spoke different languages, had different customs, and obviously incredibly different political opinions. Even the original 12 Apostles were very different from one another – but were united in Christ and a mission to spread the Word to all nations.

We’re all different, sure. Some of my closest friends, for example, have very different political opinions than myself. But Jesus can unite us all – if only we believe in Him. Because, after all, we are all sinners. We are all flawed. We all need His perfection. And through Him, we can all be saved.

As Galatians 3:26-28 (NIV) says: “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptised into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Wouldn’t we all rather be together with Him, forever, than spend eternity apart? Exactly.
