Rams Don't Go that High
Scripture tells us that God will provide all our needs. And the Apostle Paul reminds us of that in Philippians 4:19 :
“… And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. ”
I want to look at the scenario with Abraham, when God asked him to sacrifice his own son Isaac, on Mount Moriah (Genesis 22). You see, Isaac is another type of Christ, a prototype, not the real Christ, but a type. Sometimes when we’re down to the last wire and we don’t know where the next meal is coming from, or how we’re going to pay the bills, wondering where the church is going to find a place to gather for worship, or have provision for this or that, God is in fact testing us- allowing patience to have its perfect work in us. And that’s what God was doing with Abraham, testing him.
Because Isaac is a prototype of Jesus and because God was testing Abraham, God knew that Isaac could not be sacrificed and killed that day by his father. Isaac was imperfect to be sacrificed because he was not the real Christ (the real Savior). Abraham’s obedience showed that he was a contrite man willing to listen to God at all costs.
So when Abraham stopped his hand from killing his own son, because an angel of the Lord told him to stop (Genesis 22:11), he still had to make a sacrifice to God. What does this have to do with rams you ask? I’m getting to that now :)
God stands ready to provide for all our needs. As Abraham stopped his hand from sacrificing his own son, he turned around and what did he see? A ram (Genesis 22:13). The elevation at which Abraham had taken Isaac up to Mount Moriah was quite high. Rams by their nature aren’t able to climb up to such heights. But you know it was God providing the provision (the sacrifice), when the animal is not known to climb such heights.
“Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the LORD will provide”). ”
If you’re waiting on God for provision, at the right time Yahweh-Yireh will bring your ram. You don’t have to sacrifice yourself, lower yourself, or try to bring it in your own power. Your waiting is your test. Do what you can do, but leave room for God to bring your ram (your miracle, your provision). And at just the right time He will.
