Shifting from a Greek Mindset to a Hebrew Mindset
When we look in the Bible, we see that the Israelites were always on the move. God was their guide taking them from one place to the next. We see that when they were in the desert for 40 years; we see that in the Babylonian invasion when they were displaced; we see that in the 1st century church where church leaders and missionaries moved from place to place. The Israelites were a people that had to move at various times and for various reasons. When God moved them they went. When God diverted Paul to Macedonia instead of his original plan to go to Turkey, he went (Acts 16:10). When Jesus’ parents fled Israel for Egypt they went.
And when they went they didn’t always question God, but sometimes they did. Now, it doesn’t mean they didn’t complain after arriving. When the Israelites left Egypt they complained and it angered God, and they paid for it various ways. But if we look at the Hebrew Israelites of the Bible their mindset was to trust God and move.
We of the Greek mindset don’t like to move unless we know the details- where we’re going to live, what the situation is going to look like, what will happen from A to B to C. We don’t like to move without the comfort of knowing that things will be secure when we arrive.
“And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me?” Tell the children of Israel to go forward.
”
But, I challenge you to maybe think about this is bit. Is there any part of your life where you have the Greek mindset of wanting to know the whole scenario, and because of this you won’t move until you do? You won’t take on the Hebrew mindset and move because you’re waiting on God to do something first. Sound familiar? Have you ever thought that God is waiting on you to move first and then He will guide you, keeping the wrong doors closed or opening the right ones?
Are you waiting on God to start your business? Are you waiting on God to magically drop down the guy or girl that you’ve been waiting to marry? Are you stalling on some area with a Greek mindset?
God is always moving and changing situations in our lives, and growing us. He wants to take us to new levels, but He won’t do all the work. We too have to do our part and shift from “a needing to know all the details” Greek mindset, to an “I’m going to move and trust God” so He can bring the right situations in my life.
