"Come and Talk" With Him
My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.”
— Psalm 27:8

After a kinesthetic Haute Couture Week in Paris, I’m sitting down to read my Bible study lesson from James 1-2, but the words of King David are ever present from last night as I was falling asleep to this very moment- Psalm 27:8...

The fashion world is a different world from politics and international relations- my background. Though there are minor similarities, the fashion world is very different- it’s intimate, exclusive, awe-inspiring, glamorous, and insular. It isn’t always inclusive. And that breeds often challenging and interesting characters, characters who seem to get their sole identity from the industry and approval from others.

In the kinesthetic-ness of the week, I have been spiritually hungry to “come and talk”- to be with my Heavenly Father. I was reminded this week that no matter our professions, our level of wealth, titles or stations in life, our identities must be rooted in something that is eternal. And professions, our level of wealth, titles, and stations in life aren’t eternal. They can be taken away at any moment and without notice.

It is when we know God and walk intimately with Him that we are TRULY fulfilled. God wants us to enjoy life and a few nice things that come along with it. But, it’s when we plug into our Creator that we become more like Jesus, and the Fruit of the Spirit pours out of us. And, where we receive the exhortations from James 1-2, a book that calls us to look and live authentic/ genuine Christian lives.

To see this, we must unplug from worldly things, unplug from kinesthetic moments in life, unplug from social media, sometimes fast to subdue the flesh, and walk with the Holy Spirit to hear what God is trying to say to us. God greatly desires to spend time with His children and He greatly desires that all men and women will come to repentance and walk with Him, all the days of their lives. When we spend spend time with God and are truly present with Him, we remember our identities are in Him, not other people and their opinions or approval- but in Him.

No matter how busy you are today, take some minutes and unplug from social media and worldliness and “come and talk” with God, who loves and cares for you.

Happy Friday! God bless you and go bless someone else this weekend!
